Bear Hunt

The art of hunting was much more precise than many Felvarg believed. The act of tracking down one’s prey. It may have seemed like a simple concept but these beasts knew better. Massive paws pushed into the wet soil as a skewed male with red eyes stalked in the underbrush. The recent rain had caused an influx of prey - so Ghar and his two companions, Monia and Marta were taking advantage of that fact. The three demons used the advantage of the thick bushes and vines to hide their forms as they looked for the bear. Ghar had not yet caught sight of the creature but he did have the scent tracked into his nose. As Monia perked her head - she looked to their surroundings finding nothing but the sound of chirping birds. She sneered slightly, annoyed and hungry as a growl gripped at the confines of her stomach walls.
   Marta raised his head - looking from tree to tree to see a sign of broken branches or other things. The stench of the bear was Ghar’s task to track - the grumpy looking felvarg not interested in distractions while they were all hungry and waiting to be fed. As their paws pushed into the soft soil leaving tracks behind as they went. Bear prints began to show themselves in the same soil causing them to stop.
   “Over this way.” Monia would speak as she gestured towards the right. Her tone kept quiet as Ghar took a few steps forward and tried to pick up the scent again. The wind blew into his face most definitely bringing in the scent he sought after. Marta’s tail flicked off to the side getting a bit antsy from the waiting. However, patience was key otherwise they would all go hungry. He was smart enough for that at least. As Ghar began to walk once more, the other two followed suit as they made their way through the thick forests center. While Ghar felt like they were getting closer there was no real way to tell until they could see the beast which felt like it was far off.
   Marta continued to Ghar’s left, Monia offering her senses as well as she kept alert to the surrounding area. Her ears perked and eyes scanning the trees, until the three stopped at the noise of a lumbering beast. Ghar stopped in his tracks, the cool mud sticking to his dark paws. Crouching lower to hide himself some bushes he could see the bear in his line of vision. The same for Monia and Marta as the felvargs would crouch near Ghar and keep an eye on their target. If they weren’t careful the bear would notice them and take off like it had before.
   “I want Monia to head on the other side of the bear, Marta you stick near me.” Ghar whispered towards the two. Monia didn’t feel like arguing, the hunger clawing at her stomach was enough for her to simply go on her way. She moved to the right, using the advantage of the underbrush to hide herself as she slid across the forest ground easily. Heading to where the bear was facing but quietly. It seemed the beast was cautious however, lifting its head it sniffed eyes trying to scan around for the threatening scent that it picked up. Since it was coming from all around, it didn’t know what exactly to do.
   Ghar watched carefully as Monia situated herself, Marta was beginning to grow a little anxious. His soft growl made Ghar look towards him with a glare they had to do this quietly and quickly. The bear could sense them at any time and take a run for it, though luckily the musk of the forest was doing a good job of hiding their scents to begin with. Ghar looked forward again, they also didn’t want to wait too long otherwise they would lose their chance. After making up his mind Ghar shot forward with his teeth bared. The Bear turned with a shriek hitting Ghar head on as the felvarg attempted to bite into its snout. The Bear took a large paw and swiped at Ghar, the felvarg growled and bit into the right ankle of the beast. Causing it to cry out in pain as Ghar pushed downward to try and trip the best.
     Marta jumped in to assist Ghar, moving to the Bear’s left side and biting into its side. The creature screamed out in pain once more collapsing nearly onto Ghar. However he let go as Monia jumped in and bit into the beasts rump. The bear snarled trying to rear up before Ghar could grab onto it. Marta bit down harder flesh being pushed between his teeth as he pushed into the bear to force it downwards. There was no way he was going to let this bear escape. As he did so Ghar managed to jump onto the bears throat. His jaws clamping onto the throat of the animal as the Bear began to even more frantically flail about.
   Ghar carefully kept his hold, no matter how much the bear wanted to escape its fate it was no matter to him. As Monia let go she took a better grip with her jaws on one of the bears back legs as it tried to throw the felvargs off. Breathing heavily in pain as Ghar tightened his grip with his jaws. The bear began to weaken - life leaving it rather quickly as it lay down on the ground. Finally it stopped breathing, the beasts heart still attempting to pump blood throughout its body. However it didn’t matter, finally the bear was gone as the three felvarg let go and tried to catch their breath. Marta and Monia didn’t care they would be going home with full bellies and that was all that they cared about. Ghar smiled as he stood, looking at the beast before taking the first bite. The warm feeling of meat entering his stomach a welcome one after today’s victory.
